Why Turning 40 Isn’t the End — It’s My Beginning

Reflections from a special needs mama, business owner, and woman finally owning her age

Last night, I blew out 40 candles. 🎂

And while the world might say that number means I’m “getting old,” I felt something entirely different: peace, power, and a wild sense of possibility.

You see, I’ve spent the better part of my adult life raising kids, navigating therapies and IEP meetings, building a business out of passion and prayer, and loving a husband who’s been my rock through it all. My days are full — sometimes hard, always real — and somewhere along the way, the calendar kept flipping.

But as I entered this new decade, I realized something…

I’m not getting old. I’m growing whole.

The Lie We’ve Been Sold

As women, especially moms, we’re constantly fed this message:
"Once you hit a certain age, your best years are behind you."

We see it in ads for wrinkle creams, in social media highlight reels, in the quiet dread that creeps in when someone asks your birth year. The moment you hit 40, the narrative shifts from “thriving” to “slowing down.”

But here’s what they don’t tell you:

At 40, I’m finally becoming the woman I was always meant to be.

What This Season Really Looks Like

I can still bounce back after all-nighters like I used to for my kids. I forget appointments, live on caffeine, and occasionally cry in the car after drop-off. But I also…

  • Stand up for my kids like a lioness because I know what they need

  • Run a business that lets me pour my heart into other families

  • Know how to say "no" without guilt

  • Love my body for what it does, not what it looks like

  • Cherish real friendship and deeper connection

  • Appreciate the quiet, the silly, the in-between

I’ve lived enough life to know what matters — and I’ve let go of the rest.

For the Woman Who’s Feeling the Weight of Her Age

Maybe you're reading this with a lump in your throat.
Maybe you’ve been looking in the mirror wondering if you’re still “relevant.”
Maybe you're exhausted from juggling motherhood, marriage, and work — wondering where you fit in.

Let me speak this truth over you:
You are not behind. You are not too late. You are not too old.

You are right on time for this exact season — and it’s worth celebrating. 💛

What’s Ahead Is Beautiful

Turning 40 isn’t a funeral for your youth — it’s a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the next chapter. A chapter where you get to:

  • Own your story

  • Step into purpose with boldness

  • Release the pressure to “keep up”

  • Be loved for who you are, not what you achieve

  • Model grace and grit to the next generation

I’m not done dreaming. I’m just getting started. And if you’re reading this, I want the same for you.

So Let’s Flip the Script Together

Let’s celebrate milestone birthdays for what they truly are:
A chance to pause, reflect, and step forward with more wisdom, more fire, and a whole lot more freedom.

If you’re entering your 30s, 40s, 50s or beyond… I’m cheering for you.
If you're a special needs mom, a business owner, a tired soul showing up day after day… I see you.
And if society ever tries to put you in a box based on your age — just smile and break it wide open.

You’re not aging. You’re becoming.
